Oceania
The Continent
Though not often charactized as a continent, I find it helpful to separate Oceanic history from that of Asia and the Americas, due to its diverse and long history which so often gets swept under the rug. From the deserts of Australia to the beautiful beaches of Maui, Oceania has so much fascinating history to explore. This region is so clearly defined by its geography, with the vast oceans creating brilliant sailors and navigators who defied what many ever thought was possible. The average person gets lost in an Ikea, and yet most Oceanic civilizations had people sailing hundreds of miles in open ocean with nothing but the stars to guide them. Unfortunately, all this awesome sailing left little time for writing, leaving us with few sources for some regions, making my job harder and fueling my depression. However, we will perservere, as we have enough information and oral histories to fill a lifetimes worth of adventures and stories that are so often crammed into the histories of neighboring regions.
